There are lots of tutorials out there for certain knitting techniques. Things like cast-on’s, increases, decreases, short rows, etc. But then there are those little things that come up in patterns that aren’t necessarily a specific technique or skill, and aren’t necessarily difficult, but that aren’t always obvious either (especially if you’re a visual learner!).
I like to call them the “Skipped Knitting Tutorials” – they live in this in-between world where they’re beyond “learning-to-knit” but they are skills or techniques often found in even the most beginner-friendly patterns yet still aren’t always fully explained.
Examples of Skipped Knitting Lessons:
- Switching to smaller needles
- Measuring fabric with stitches on the needle
- Rejoining yarn
The above may all be obvious and intutive to some, but for many it can cause them to pause and ask “Ok, but how exactly do I do that!?“

Because I’m also a visual learner, throughout my almost 20 years of designing and writing patterns, I’ve created tutorials for these exact types of situations.
