My new blocking tool

A couple of months ago I had a conversation with my husband about how I was on the look-out for a better bowl/bucket/bin to use when soaking my sweaters before blocking. In the past I have just used a large bowl, placed in my bathtub. But it wasn’t ideal because I had to scrunch my sweater inside of it. I wanted some kind of thing that I could submerge my sweater into without having to scrunch it up too much and that also wouldn’t take forever to fill with water. Jeff, being the handy guy he is, had a great idea. And here it is…

What is this you ask? It’s a medium concrete mixing tray from Home Depot! I’m sure we can’t be the first people to utilize such a thing for blocking, but because I haven’t seen it used before I was so excited. It fits perfectly in my small bathtub (it measures approx. 20″ x 27.5″), but even if you didn’t have a tub it wouldn’t take very long to fill, even with pitchers of water, due to his shallow depth.

And here it is with my newest sweater (I’ll be self-publishing this cardigan later on this month!)
