Brookdale Vest is an A-line, open-style vest perfect for layering. It features a textured stitch pattern and a unique neckline construction. And knit up in worsted/aran-weight yarn, it’s a quick knit too!

Finished Chest Measurement: 30 (34, 37.75, 41.75) (45, 49, 52.75) (56.25, 60, 64)”/ 76 (86, 96, 106) (114, 124, 134) (143, 152, 163) cm 

Gauge: 17 sts & 24 rows = 4”/10 cm in St st after blocking 

Yarn: Approx. 510 (565, 625, 680) (745, 805, 865) (930, 1010, 1075) yds of worsted/aran-weight yarn, shown in Silky Wool Aran by Elsebeth Lavold (45% Wool, 35% Silk, 20% Nylon; 50g = 104 yds), 5 (6, 7, 7) (8, 8, 9) (9, 10, 11) skeins, shown in Eggplant 1011. 

Needles and other supplies:

  • US 8/5 mm circular, 32”/80 cm length or size needed to obtain gauge
  • For three needle bind-off: US 8/5 mm circular, 24 or 32”/60-80 mm length, or same size used to obtain gauge
  • Stitch markers
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scrap yarn or stitch holders.

Construction:

  • Vest is knit from the bottom up, in one piece with A-line shaping.
  • Each front features a rice stitch panel that is worked at the same time as the rest of the garment.
  • Fronts and back are separated at the underarms and each is worked separately up to the shoulders.
  • Shoulder sts are then placed on holders while front panels are continued.
  • Shoulder sts are seamed together using the Three Needle Bind-Off technique.
  • Front panel ends are then connected (via Three Needle Bind-Off), and then side of panels are picked up and connected to the back neck (also via Three Needle Bind-Off). Photo tutorial provided of this entire process.
