Over 8 years ago I released Lilac Trail, a DK-weight vest featuring eyelets and lace. Over the last few months I’ve been working on a total pattern update for it, to not only refresh it to meet my current pattern writing and layout standards, but also to expand the size offering. I’m so happy to let you know that it’s now all updated and available for purchase! And in addition to all of those updates, I also now have a “Lilac Trail Tips” page (as all of my new or updated patterns have), that includes tutorials to all of the techniques I use in the pattern, including a brand new video that shows you how to work the lace panel.
Here are more details about the pattern:
- I knit the above sample in the beautiful Edna DK by Dirty Water Dyeworks. This is a wool/silk blend that knits up so nicely and has both nice drape and great stitch definition (I do have substitution ideas on my tips page if you want a different fiber type or price point).
- There are now 11 size options, ranging from 32.5″ – 64.5″.
- It’s completely seamless, and you start at the bottom all in one piece. Fronts and back are divided at the underarms and each is worked separately to the shoulders which are then attached together using the three needle bind-off.
- You’ll notice what looks like a seam going up each side – it’s what I call a “faux seam” because it’s not a seam at all (although it looks like one). It’s created simply by working 2 stitches in reverse stockinette stitch at each side.
- If you have never worked lace before this would be a great first project for it because I have video tutorials for all of the stitches and the stitch pattern is written out in the instructions (so you don’t have to follow a chart, although one is provided should you prefer it).
- The pattern is quite long in terms of pages but this is only because I have provided very detailed instructions for each size – it’s still quite a straight-forward pattern that is suitable for an intermediate beginner.
