New Canaan cowl is knit in the round and features a textured stitch pattern that looks great in a variety of different yarns and fibers. Instructions are provided for the following yarn weights: Fingering (Sport, DK, Worsted, Bulky)

New Canaan is simple enough that you can enjoy it while you are watching a movie or sitting with your knit group, but because of the texture stitch pattern it will still keep you interested.

Instructions are provided for the following yarn weights:
Fingering (Sport, DK, Worsted, Bulky)

Finished Measurement: 42”/107 cm circumference x 6.25”/16 cm height

Yarn: Approx 366 (318, 280, 240, 180) yds of Fingering (Sport, DK, Worsted, Bulky) weight yarn, shown in:

  • light green photos: Sport-weight version using Road to China Light by The Fibre Company (65% Alpaca, 15% Silk, 10% Camel, 10% Cashmere; 50g = 159 yds), 2 skeins.
  • blue photos: Bulky-weight version using Fluffy Mohair by cowgirlblues (78% Kid Mohair, 13% Wool, 9% Nylon; 100g = 219 yds), 1 skein, color Guinea Fowl. You can purchase it at Mother of Purl Yarn Shop here, or check out cowgirlblues website here.

Gauge & Needle Sizes, by yarn weight:
Pattern gauge for each yarn-weight is listed below, along with estimated needle size. Note: Exact gauge is not critical but it will affect your finished measurement and yarn usage.

  • Fingering: 30 sts = 4”/10 cm in St st on US 2/2.75 mm 32”/80 cm circ.
  • Sport: 26 sts = 4”/10 cm in St st on US 4/3.5 mm 32”/80 cm circ.
  • DK: 22 sts = 4”/10 cm in St st on US 6/4 mm 32”/80 cm circ.
  • Worsted: 18 sts = 4”/10 cm in St st on US 8/5 mm 32”/80 cm circ.
  • Bulky: 14 sts = 4”/10 cm in St st on US 10/6 mm 32”/80 cm circ.
